One of the most prominent vessels that circumnavigate the Enchanted Isles is the Santa Cruz II, an expedition vessel measuring 210 feet (64 meters) in length that has enough space for up to 90 passengers and 60 crew members. Additionally, it has some advantages over smaller boats in the Galapagos. The first and likely most obvious is that because the Santa Cruz II is physically more significant, it is more stable and moves (or rocks) less in response to ocean currents and waves. Large communal spaces also include our library, which features a flat-screen TV, a projector, a coffee station (which can brew ten different kinds of coffee at the push of a button!), a mini-library with a selection of books available for free loan, and numerous couches, chairs, and tables for lounging. A smaller boat would not offer Santa Cruz II’s amenities, which include a gym, two hot tubs, a medical officer on duty around the clock, and a discovery room with activities and movies for the youngsters.
