Among the islands of the Eastern Itinerary, my favorite is South Plaza Island in the Galapagos. It is abundant with flora and fauna, including gulls, frigates, iguanas, cacti, and the stunning red-billed tropicbird. Passing a gull’s nest and observing the young attempt to take flight by flapping their wings is relatively easy.

The light is ideal for me as a photographer here! We have an almost picture-perfect golden hour for incredible photos, especially considering the time of day.

Observing a Fluffy Gull Chick on South Plaza Island in the Galapagos

Enrique, the naturalist guide, alerted one of the guests to watch his step as he was going to step on a petite chick whose color matched the surrounding rocks on this particular day while we were strolling alongside the South Plaza cliff in the Galapagos Islands with the boobies group. We eventually located the girl Enrique was pointing at, even if it took some time. It was a tiny, fluffy gull chick waiting for its mother to return with food. He looked at us, not sure what or who we were. We hurried by, snapping a few shots not to frighten him, and let the others take their time.

The chick’s flawless camouflage in a predator-filled environment was made possible by the gull’s color, demonstrating the perfection of nature’s handiwork. Metropolitan Touring established its Carbon Neutral Policy to protect the environment for these and many other reasons.
