Over 1,770 square miles (8,010 km₂) of mysterious islands and islets make up the Galapagos archipelago. Out of the many rare species found in the Galapagos, seven of the islands are tightly protected, leaving fourteen for us to explore on our various Galapagos ship itineraries.

We are pleased to report that the Charles Darwin Research Station is now completely open with exciting new additions and improvements, including the Lonesome George exhibit, one of the most well-known Galapagos tortoises! The renovations took a year, and visitors were restricted to select station portions.
Volcanic activity formed the Galapagos Islands. Española and San Cristobal, the oldest islands in the archipelago, are in its eastern region. One of the newest and westernmost islands is Fernandina Island, which is still being formed by the island’s active volcano.
Buccaneer Cove is a fantastic place to be on Santiago Island. It is named for the early sailors, pirates, buccaneers, and later whalers who utilized this Cove as an anchorage to careen their vessels, search for fresh water in the higher reaches of the volcanic island, and catch gigantic tortoises for nourishment.
