The Oldest Island in the Archipelago
Española Island’s early morning was warm from when the sun rose behind the oldest island in the archipelago. The sky remained a beautiful blue, with a few fluffy white clouds drifting over it. Frigates encircled the boat, and their great, incredible wingspan was astounding. Turtles emerged from the surrounding crystal-clear water to meet every one of us. This island has a certain allure that you can’t help but be drawn to.
Vast colonies of marine iguanas, Nazca boobies, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, mockingbirds, and even albatrosses greeted us as soon as we disembarked. Crossing off some incredible species from your Big 15 list is exciting! The best part is that we may witness most of these fantastic animals almost all year round. It makes sense that the Galapagos Islands are considered some of the world’s most diverse locations.
A Cute Surprise Along the Way

Our time in Española was nearly up. Something was waiting for us back at the beach, even though we were hungry and eager to return to our lovely cruise. Not surprisingly, given the circumstances, there was a sizable colony of sea lions lounging placidly along the shore. Suddenly, they all sprang up and dashed into the river, obstructing our path back to our pangas! Like they were all in the midst of a competition! After this reasonably unusual occurrence, huge males, delicate-looking ladies, and many playful pups went about their everyday lives, utterly unconscious of our presence and just going about their business.
Guests in Paradise
That’s what an incredible Galapagos trip to the Ecuadorian archipelago will provide you. First-hand access to the most remote and breathtaking uninhabited islands, where you may see wildlife living in its native habitat! You will surely come across so much wildlife, unaware of the people surrounding it. Our primary goal as tour guides and operators is maintaining that state of affairs. We are only visitors, just passing through in an extraordinary universe.

Sea Lions: Everyone’s Favourite
Visitors love sea lions because of their lovely looks, curiosity, and friendliness. It is pretty tough to stay sane around them. You will most likely witness this entertaining animal on your trip to the Galapagos. Sea lions are nearly everywhere in the archipelago, whether sleeping under a bench at a port, atop some inaccessible-looking lava rocks, on the beach, or practically “owning” local fishing boats, which their actual owners eventually have to scare away!
Playful Water Companions
Sea lions are usually present at any stunning white sand beach on the islands, whether it is frequented by locals or tourists swimming. If they get too close, don’t panic. These curious creatures enjoy playing with snorkelers’ bubbles and divers. They enjoy dancing around swimmers; if they feel bold, they could even try touching you. Remember to try not to touch them yourself, no matter how nice or close they become. On the island, handling any animal is strictly banned.
We can be sure that our day spent on the oldest island in the archipelago will live on in our memories for years. Don’t miss the chance to see Española if you haven’t already on one of our Galapagos tours. You’re going to adore it!
